AGADIR – TAROUDANT - TAZNAKHT – KSAR AIT BEN HADDOU - OUARZAZATE
Agadir to Ouarzazate departs at 8 AM, traveling via Taliouine, Taznakht, and Taroudant, dubbed "the little Marrakesh." The road continues on to the most well-known Kasbah in Morocco, the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, which is also one of the country's eight UNESCO World Heritage sites. There is time to explore the Kasbah and ascend to the top for a view after lunch in the village. There will be an afternoon excursion to the Atlas Film Studios. The sets from several Hollywood blockbusters, including Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Asterix and Obelix, and Game of Thrones, are still largely intact. The little village of Ouarzazate, where you spend the night in a traditional riad, is just a few kilometers away.
OUARZAZATE – SKOURA OASIS – VALLEY OF ROSES – BOUTAGHRAR – DADES CANYON – TODGHA GORGE
Following breakfast, you travel via the Skoura Oasis on your way to the Dades Gorge. Here, surrounded by palm trees, are a number of old kasbahs, some of which are tragically in ruins. From this point on, our journey passes through the Valley of Roses, or Kela'a M'gouna, which is well-known for its May Rose Festival. Here, we pause to view the locally produced cosmetic items crafted from the valley's profusion of flowers. These goods are highly prized and well-known throughout Morocco. You take an off-road route from here to have a better view of the surroundings. You will make stops at caverns along the route, which are utilized by any Berber nomads who happen to pass by and establish a home there. We are going to have a drink of tea with them before moving on to lunch at Dades Gorge.
After traveling a short distance, you spend the night in a hotel or kasbah in Tinghir, which is home to the remarkably unique Toudgha gorges.
TODGHA GORGE – ERFOUD – RISSANI - MERZOUGA
There are options to walk after breakfast, either along the road on the opposite side of the gorges or along the river via the gardens. We'll have lunch here or in the bivouac in the Erg Chebbi dunes later on. The Oasis of Tafilalet, close to Erfoud, is well-known for its Date Festival. On the way there, you pass through Rissani, home of the Alaouite family that holds the current Moroccan throne. After receiving a glass of tea upon arrival at the bivouac, you can ride a camel to the top of the dunes to witness the sunset. At the base of the dunes, there is a nomad tent where guests spend the night after dinner.
MERZOUGA – NOMADS - KHAMLIA – RISSANI – DRAA VALLEY - AGDEZ
We will be exploring the desert region today. If you get up early, you may witness the sunrise, when the color of the dunes and the dance of shadows is an amazing sight. We'll take you on a tour around the sand dunes where you can witness the nomadic people's way of life and the breathtakingly shifting dunes' contrasts. We are going to the Gnawa musicians' "black village" in Khamlia. Proceed via Rissani to the vast Tafilalet palm grove. Route towards the Anti-Atlas mountains (1660m high), the little Berber settlement of Agdez, Tazarine Oasis, N'kob, and the Draa Valley (lunch on the spot). Night and dinner in Riad.
AGDZ –TALIOUINE – AIT MLOUL - AGADIR
Following breakfast, we go from Agdz to Taznakht, which is well-known for its Berber carpets and gelims, by automobile. We pass through stunning scenery and the Bouazzer mines along the route. This is a more remote and unexplored area of the nation. Afterwards, we cross the Tizi-n-Ikhsane and Tizi-n-Tighatine passes and proceed westward to Agadir. We make a lunch stop in Taliouine, which is in the center of Morocco's saffron-growing region and has a great tiny museum dedicated to the craft of saffron cultivation. The route returns to Taroudant in the afternoon, following the frequently dry Souss River and many argane trees on every hillside slope back to Agadir, which we arrive at by the end of the afternoon.
